Telephone Scam
Trading Standards would like to alert people to a telephone scam that appears to be in operation.
A lady has reported receiving a telephone call from a man claiming to be from Lloyds TSB. The caller confirmed the correct name and date of birth of the lady before continuing to ask for her debit card details. Fortunately the lady became suspicious and did not give out any further personal details. On contacting Lloyds TSB to give details of the incident the bank acknowledged receiving further similar reports.
Residents are urged not to disclose bank details to anyone who telephones and asks for them, even if they claim to be calling from a bank or a service provider. Genuine companies will never cold call and request bank account information from you. Please let your bank know if you have been contacted in this way.
If you or anyone you know has received a similar telephone call please contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 or visit www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
Best wishes
